What is TRA Type Approval in Oman, and Why Does Your Product Need It?
Oman TRA Type Approval is a validation and endorsement process of the telecom equipment used in Sultanate. The TRA Approval label is the mark of quality and compliance, ensuring that telecom equipment conforms to relevant standards.

Essential Requirements for Oman TRA Type Approval
Here is the list of things required for Oman Type Approval:
- Technical literature (User Manual/guide, data sheet, technical description.

Who Is Eligible For Oman Type Approval?
Manufacturers, Importers and all persons who intend to use the telecommunications equipment and devices in Oman are eligible for applying Oman TRA Type Approval. However, to get through this process, not only compliance with technical standards is important but you also need to have a local representative.
Oman Type Approval Exempted Equipment
Oman TRA Type Approval covers specific items and there are certain exclusions as well here which include: Non-sending receivers such as GPS Devices, Echo Sounders, Server used for data storage without dealing in telecom data packets or frequencies, Microwave Oven, Infrared short range transmitter designs/remote controls, Accessories of telecom devices capable of transmission Imported telecom device intended for re-export.
Latest Updates in Oman TRA Type Approval Process
The validity of the TRA Type Approval certificate has been capped to four years, thus removing the earlier infinite duration. This has retroactive effects, so it also applies to approvals that have already been issued prior to this new regulation. The four years run from the original date of issuance.
Oman Type Approval applications take 3 to 4 weeks lead time to be finalized. The earlier we have the documents in order and submitted to us for evaluation, the sooner the actual application process begins with a better lead time.
QR Code Labeling: The new label update is one of those reforms. A QR code must be present on the label of all relevant products.
Increase in Authority Fees: The Type Approval fees levied by Oman TRA will see a dramatic increase of 150%.
Mutual Recognition Agreements
As of 2024, Oman TRA Type Approval no longer requires in-country testing for most products. On the contrary, it mostly accepts test reports from internationally reputed labs (ex: lab accredited for ISO/IEC 17025). Usage of international test report is one way to make the approval process faster, as this will allow manufacturers to take advantage of certifications they have already obtained. Nevertheless, certain categories of product may be under higher scrutiny or require further specification so always confirm with the TRA as to particular testing requirements on a case by case basis.
