Malaysia Updates 5G Rules for Base Stations and Signal Boosters:
10 October 2026

Malaysia is updating the technical rules for 5G equipment. The Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB) has released two draft codes for public feedback. One covers 5G base stations and the other covers 5G cellular boosters.

5G base stations
The revised code sets the minimum standards a 5G base station must meet before it can be used in Malaysia. It looks at how the equipment sends and receives signals, and how well it performs overall.

5G cellular boosters
The booster code lays out the technical rules for signal boosters used on 5G networks. A key focus is making sure these devices don’t interfere with other radio services, which has long been a concern with boosters.

Who should pay attention?
Any company that makes or supplies 5G base stations or signal boosters for the Malaysian market. These codes form the technical basis for equipment certification in Malaysia, so changes here can affect your testing and approval plans.

What happens next?
The rules are still in draft and may change before they are finalised. Feedback is open until 14 October 2026, so there are only a few days left to have your say. Once the final codes are published, products will need to meet the updated requirements.
