Oman TRA Asks for Input on Spectrum for Private Broadband Networks

More and more businesses want their own wireless networks: ports, oil and gas sites, factories and airports looking for private LTE or 5G that they control themselves. Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is now looking at how to make spectrum available for them.

On 8 September 2026, the TRA opened a public consultation on the frequency band requirements for private broadband networks. Responses are due by 9 October 2026.

What the TRA wants to know

The consultation asks stakeholders for their views on four areas:

  • Which technologies and applications private networks should support
  • How spectrum should be assigned
  • Technical requirements and conditions for using the spectrum
  • How ready the market is, technically and commercially, to deliver private networks

The TRA says the aim is a flexible, modern regulatory environment that encourages investment in new technology while making efficient use of spectrum. Responses are submitted through an online questionnaire, and supporting material like case studies or technical documents is welcome.

Who should take part

This is an early-stage study rather than new rules, but it's the best chance to shape what comes next. It's worth responding if you're:

  • A vendor of private LTE/5G radios, core networks or devices
  • An enterprise planning a private network in Oman
  • A system integrator or mobile operator working in this space

The public consultation page doesn't say which frequency bands are being considered, so we'd suggest reading the full consultation document carefully before you respond.

What it means for equipment approvals

Nothing changes for type approval yet. But once Oman sets out a framework for private networks, radio equipment for those networks will need TRA type approval in the relevant bands, so it helps to plan ahead.

Our Oman TRA type approval guide explains the current process, and we're happy to help with approvals for private network equipment.
