Exempted Equipment from NCA Type Approval
Certain communications equipment are exempted from the National Communications Authority (NCA) Type Approval in Ghana. They are exempt from the rules if they fall into one of the following categories:
- Networking equipment (switches, firewalls, servers, storage devices)
- Devices imported or manufactured exclusively for personal use and not for sale.
- A device that is used solely for non-revenue generating reasons such as testing or demonstrating.
- Tablet PCs with WiFi only (non-SIM)
- GPS‐only devices
- Equipment used for exhibition that does not connect to Network.
- Smartwatches with Bluetooth/WiFi only (without SIM or tracking features)
- Low‐powered short‐range keyless entry systems / remote controls on a non‐interference basis
- equipment used only for research and development activities.
- Equipment used only for training or education purposes.

Ghana (NCA) Type Approval (What Are the Requirements?)
The details required should include a business license that displays the company operating in your country, the manufacturer’s declaration of conformity, accredited test reports, technical specification, user manual and product photographs. Approved product must carry an NCA type‐approval marking. For example: “NCA Approved: XXX-XXXXX-XXX”. Imported product is subject to clearance at customs. A dealership license may be required for importers/distributors of approved product.
