What is CRA Type Approval in Qatar, and Why Does Your Product Need It?
Qatar Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) is the regulatory body in Qatar, overseeing and regulating overall Type Approval process of telecommunication equipment to be used commercially within its borders. It includes checking the equipment against Qatar related tech standards.
Type Approval aims to check that all RTTE used in Qatar complies with essential requirements regarding the efficient use of spectrum, interconnection with public telecommunications networks and protection of health & safety as well electromagnetic compatibility.
Navigating the Qatar Type Approval Application Process
There are two types of approval process to be followed for Qatar Type Approval. The Streamlined Process is for equipment that has been already Type Approved/tested in a recognized country, and the standard process is for everything else.
The application requires elaborate info on the equipment, as well as adequate test results confirming compliance with relevant standards. QATAR Upon submission of the application, and after performing tests regular will review a QAI results to ascertain whether equipment are safety-compliant or not.
Type Approval Duration and Renewal Requirements
CRA Qatar Type Approvals are issued with permanent unlimited validity provided no changes to the approved equipment. In-case of any change on the certified equipment, all changes require new CRA Qatar Type Approval.
Any change in the following would require a separate ICT Qatar Type Approval application; Brand name, Model number, Functions, Product Name, Certificate of compliance, Declaration of Conformity, Applicable Standards, and Requirements Radio parameters.
List of Equipment Exempt from Qatar Type Approval
On the other hand, there are few categories of exempt equipment as well from Type Approval [Qatar]. These categories include:
- Receiver only equipment.
- A reader having transmitter equipment that is capable of transmitting only under the control of a domestic public network, such as mobile phones.
- Any radio apparatus in PC or laptop which is either receiver only, such as wifi and bluetooth equipment embedded in the laptops/personal computers; Transmitter device with a transmit output power not exceeding 100mW.
- Radio equipment for use by licensed amateur only.
- Passive cable based radio devices.
- Other radio: satellite TV, Radio (FM/AM) broadcast receivers.
- Short range radio device embedded in the vehicles for example car navigation, remote sensor, Remote car key etc.
- Low range remote controller like TV receiver, etc.
