Syrian Type Approval Process: Simplified Overview
Application Submission:
- Complete the SY-TPRA application form.
- Submit essential documents: DoC, payment receipt for type approval fee, and technical specs
Documentation Requirements:
- Preparation and submission in Arabic or English of technical and operational supporting documents.
- Upload basic tests according to equipment nature (RF for radio, EMC for electromagnetic compatibility, safety reports)
- Mobile Terminals — GSMA database IMEI registration or equivalently
Sample Submission:
- It is possible that a sample of the equipment is needed for testing.
- In case of rejection, the dealer would have to export back the sample.
Evaluation and Approval:
- SY-TPRA will evaluate all documentation and samples submitted.
- It generally takes 20 working days for approval, assuming all documents are submitted.
Certificate Issuance:
- SY-TPRA will issue a three-year type approval certificate once approved.
- The certificate can also be renewed on the basis of a formal application submitted three months before expiry.
Type Approval Certificate Renewal and Ongoing Compliance
- Certificate Validity: The type approval certificate is valid for 3 years and should be renewed in the three months before the end of its validity period. If you do not renew on time, you will need to start a new approval process.
- Keeping in Compliance: SY-TPRA has the right to do inspections (unannounced) at any time to check out that the equipment is still acceptable in accordance with specifications authorized by it, for purposes of keeping compliance with Syrian law.
- Fees: The type approval requires certain fees to be paid for both the application submission and certificate receipt. Evidence of payment must be attached to an application.
- Labelling Obligations: SY-TPRA type approval label should be clearly displayed on Approved equipment, to indicate compliance with Syrian regulatory requirements
SY-TPRA’s Approval of 6 GHz Band for WiFi 6E: Key Update for 2024
Notable among them is the recent approval of WiFi 6E technology in the 6 GHz frequency band by SY-TPRA. This, effective September 23, 2024, opens the 5925–6425 MHz band for WiFi increasing wireless access.
It provides higher throughput and lower latency with a power limit of 23 dBm (200 mW) for this new band. This expansion is most important for AR and VR, which require high-speed, stable wireless communication.
